After the tragic accident that occurred on 17 January 2002 when going through a lock, the canal was closed for nearly ten years. It has been reopened to navigation since May 2011 and now, with its four old hydraulic lifts, it is doubtless the most stunning waterway route that pleasure sailors could dream of.
