Once it leaves the inner Paris suburbs, after some ten kilometres, the canal becomes very narrow and the waterway gracefully wends its way through the valleys of the Marne and then the Ourcq. This "Sleeping Beauty" only needs a lock or a transporter bridge to open up to the Marne and… to river tourism.
